Formal/Informal Language Part 1 Recognizing language that is too formal or too informal. Introductory Paragraph: Part 1 Is the thesis fact or opinion? Part 2 Selecting a strong hook. Part 4 Recognizing redundant, unnecessary, and wordy phrases. Topic Sentences Part 1 Recognizing strong topic sentences.

This week, students will read articles and answer questions in the section titled "When is it okay to deceive others?" The ELA teachers can see their responses on their own computers, so students will not need to submit anything.

The code is aimp8. The class name for Elmore Park is EPMS2020. The code is: opndi. This week you will read articles related to the Unit 5 topic "Not As They Seem." The articles for this week fall under the section "When is it okay to deceive others?" The articles are as follows: "Why do kids lie, and is it normal?" ; "The Golden Windows" by Laura E. Richards; "Hearts and Hands" by O. Henry. Remember that you can highlight words to get their definitions, annotate the text, and create notes. Your teachers can see your notes, your answers to the multiple choice questions, and your written response answers. For written response questions, remember to address the question, explain your reasoning, and provide text evidence. A one-sentence answer for written response questions is not enough.

Complete J.1 (order topics from broadest to narrowest), J.2 (organize information by main idea) & J.3 (transitions with conductive adverbs). Then complete O.7 (suggest appropriate revisions). After you have reached 80% mastery on both skills, challenge yourself to go higher!

Parents: For this week's Enrichment activity, students will follow the directions on the Legends of Learning Step Sheet to create an account and log-in to play a gaming style review of Percent. (See the Teacher Assigned PLAYLISTS) Students can also complete a cumulative math skill review in The Awakening Game that is also available in Legends of Learning.

Students: You will download the file "StepSheet- Legends of Learning" and follow the directions to create an account and log-in. If your teacher has an account, you may receive a different TEACHER CODE to use via your email, REMIND, or Curve. Once your account is created, you will log-in and there are several PLAYLISTS assigned to review percent and comparing rates. There is also a challenging review of all math skills in The Awakening Game. You can play The Awakening review game automatically once you log-in, but your assigned Playlists may not show up immediately. If you are new to Legends of Learning, your playlists will appear after you join, so check back later in the day or the next day to see the new playlists.
