In the study of art, students learn about radial design, which is a circular form that has details that "radiate" out from the center. A "mandala" is a great example of radial design. Mandalas can be drawn on paper, or created with objects. This week's challenge is to create an mandala out of objects you have around the house. For example, seeds or beans, legos, a deck of cards, forks and spoons, things you have multiples of.

Student Instructions
This week you will have fun creating a mandala out of objects you can find around the house! A mandala is a radial design, typically depicted as a circle inside a square. (You can exclude the square for this project). Depending on the size of the objects you decide to use, you may have to create your mandala in the driveway! Here is a schedule you can use if you like to stay on track for the week. On Monday, do some internet research on mandalas so you can be inspired. On Tuesday, start digging around in the house to look for objects you have multiples of - like beads, socks, pennies, legos, forks, cards, game pieces, puzzle pieces, beans, seeds, etc. On Wednesday, experiment with how you will use thee objects you find and draw a few sketches of your layout. On Thursday and Friday, create your Mandala and take a pic to send to your teacher.

Learning Opportunity Objective
"Radial Design" is an important part of the Principles of Design and this lesson reinforces that learning.
