City Design and Sustainability Green Engineering – Various fields of engineering, all focused on sustainability. But, where do you begin when you design a city with a goal of making life better for people and the planet? While reading the article, think of these things: • Engineering professions are changing and are taking up new challenges. • There is no set definition of what an engineer is or what he or she does. • The many problems in the world require new ways of thinking about solutions. • The city is a practical sphere of action for engineers to focus on. • What is needed is an approach to sustainable system design for urban areas. Think about these things and write a multi-paragraph answer. Summarize the answer to these questions in two or three paragraphs. After you read the article, find an engineering field that you find interesting and could have an impact on a city design or redesign. What is that field? What is the educational requirement to enter that field? What scope or impact would you have on a sustainable city? What design would you make or what in a current city’s design would you change?
