The Saluting America's Band Directors project, which made a remarkable debut in the 2022 Rose Parade, is once again uniting passionate band directors from around the country in the heart of New York City. Under the theme "America's band directors: We teach music. We teach life," the project aims to honor the extraordinary dedication and achievements of music educators. Throughout their careers, these educators have collectively mentored and inspired hundreds of thousands of students, instilling not only the love of music but valuable life lessons.

Jon Waters, a nationally renowned music educator and innovative band director, will lead this remarkable band of music educators during the parade.

The Saluting America's Band Directors project is proudly sponsored by the Michael D. Sewell Memorial Foundation, headquartered in Pickerington, Ohio. The foundation, established in memory of the late Mike Sewell, who dedicated nearly 40 years to school and community music programs in Pickerington and Central Ohio, is committed to recognizing and continuing his legacy of supporting music education.

When asked about this experience, Mrs. Sanders said, “It is an honor to not only represent Appling Middle and Bartlett City Schools, but to be a representative of Tennessee and all the amazing band directors that teach music. I hope our performance inspires directors and students alike to continue to pursue their passions and it opens the doors of opportunities that have been afforded to so many young musicians because of their gift.”

As Mrs. Sanders represents Bartlett City Schools and Appling Middle School on the national stage, the entire community joins in celebrating her achievements and the importance of music education. Her participation in the 2023 Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade is a testament to her dedication and the district's commitment to nurturing young musicians.
