Follow the link provided that will guide students through the process of setting up the activity. If unable to view the video online, begin by having students cutout the spinning people on the PDF attached. Students will need the "Twist O' Matic" template (2 copies) two rubber bands of different thicknesses, two rulers, four books, and four binder or paper clips. First make one cut on each rubber band so that it becomes a strip. Make sure the rubber bands are equal length. Print and color two copies of the Twist O' Matic PDF. The directions for cutting the Twist O' Matic template are on the PDF. Once cut, attach the thinner rubber band to one Twist O' Matic using the binder or paper clip. Then, attach the other end of the rubber band to the ruler. Repeat the steps for the thicker rubber band and the other Twist O' Matic. Suspend the Twist O' Matics off of the end of a table so that they are free to spin. Put books on the rulers to hold them down onto the table and keep them in place. Count the number of turns by recording how many times the people on the ride pass (1 full turn = 360 degree rotation). Then, count how many spins using the same method. Record the information on the Twist O' Matic recording sheet. An answer key is provided to help answer questions.

Student Instructions
Gather the materials you will need for this activity: two printouts of the Twist O' Matic template, two different size rubber bands, four binder or paper clips, two rulers, and four books. Color and cut the Twist O' Matic template. Cut on the dotted lines and make sure to stop at the stop signs! Once cut, fold the cut piece over and match the pieces together. Make one cut in each rubber band so they turn into strips. Cut the rubber bands again to make sure they are the same length. Attach the thinner rubber band to the Twist O' Matic using the binder or paper clip. Then attach the other end to the ruler with another binder or paper clip. Repeat the steps for the thicker rubber band. Set the two Twist O' Matics on a table and put the rulers under books to hold them down and in place. Leave room for the Twist O Matics to spin. Count the number of turns or number of times you see the people go around. Then count the number of spins after you let the Twist O' Matic go or how many times the people go back around the other way. Record your results on the Twist O'Matic data sheet.
