Parent Instructions
Students are to use their Clever accounts to access BrainPOP. If you do not have BrainPOP in Clever, you will go to the BrainPOP site and create a free account. Students will watch the Idioms and Cliches movie and take the review quiz. The students can also play a related game on BrainPOP. There are several other activities available with this movie (Make-a Movie, Make-a-Map, Creative Coding, Worksheet, Vocabulary, Graphic Organizer, and Related Reading).
 
Student Instructions
Login into BrainPOP through Clever. If you do not have BrainPOP in Clever, go to the BrainPOP site and create a free account. Watch the Idioms and Cliches Movie. Take the review quiz and try to play the game that goes with it. Choose one of the other activities to do to improve your skills - Make-a Movie, Make-a-Map, Creative Coding, Worksheet, Vocabulary, or the Graphic Organizer. Take a look at all of them to figure out which one would help you the most.

Parent Instructions
Students should access MobyMax through www.clever.com.  When in MobyMax, click on Vocabulary.If your child has not used MobyMax, it should prompt them to take a placement test. They should take the placement test to determine their level. Once the level is determined, students should spend 10-15 minutes each day increasing their vocabulary with these activities.
 
Student Instructions
Go to MobyMax through Clever.  Click on Vocabulary. If you've never accessed this before, it will prompt you to take a placement test. Take the placement quiz. The program will then set your level and start you on your path.  Spend 10-15 minutes each day practicing vocabulary skills.

Parent Instructions
Students should click on the linked skill. Choose the 5th grade division skills (5.D.1 - 5.D.16) and attempt to achieve a Smart score of 85 or above. If your student is struggling, you might consider dropping down one grade level to help the student feel more confident and build a stronger skill base before moving back up to 5th grade. If your student is achieving a 90 or above with ease, then allow them to move into the 6th grade skills (6.C.1- 6.C.6) as a challenge.
 
Student Instructions
Click on the skill linked above and focus on 5th grade skills D.1 - D.16 (whole number division). Try to reach a smart score of 85 or higher on each skill. If you are easily reaching 85 or higher, move on.

Access Discovery Education through Clever. After you accessed Discovery Education, in the search bar, type Fascinating Fossils.  Click on the video that is 10 minutes and 30 seconds long. It should be the first one that comes up on your screen.
 
In this video you’ll recall what fossils are, the different types of fossils and how they help us. First, watch the video (10 minutes.) Secondly, read the reading material provided. Thirdly, using the video as a guide and reading as a guide, write a paragraph answering this question: How were scientists able to link fossils to animals of today? For family fun, everyone will make an imprint in clay/play dough using a small toy of their choice and hide it. Let the Fossil Hunt begin!

Second, click the link for Reading Material. Read the additional information in the article and review the definitions of the important vocabulary. Third, answer the discussion questions listed at the bottom of the page. Click each question after you have responded to reveal the correct answers. Finally, take the Kahoot quiz to review and see how much you have learned!

Parents, your child should go to Clever and choose Social Studies Weekly. Once there, choose the Grade 5  icon and then go to week 11. Students should read the articles for the week, or they may choose to have it read to them. After they have finished reading, there is a quiz to check for understanding. Please see the attached PDF. They may answer the questions on notebook paper, or it can be printed out if you like. Students should cite where they found the information needed to answer each question. After completing this, they may go to the link provided and visit the FDR Memorial in Washington D.C. for a virtual field trip.

Please log in to Clever and choose Social Studies Weekly. Once there, click on the Grade 5 icon and then go to week 11. Please read the articles for the week, or you may choose to have it read to you. After you have finished reading, there is a quiz that you may take to check your understanding. Open the attached as a PDF called "The Great Depression". You may answer the questions on notebook paper. Please cite the name of the article that contained the answer to each question. After completing this, you are free to go to Washington D.C.! Well, by way of a virtual field trip that is. Just go to the link provided and visit the FDR Memorial in Washington D.C.

Bonus opportunity: You will learn that President Hoover and President Roosevelt both wanted the best for our country; however, they had very different ideas on how to help the country. Create a doodle drawing of each president and add some notes that will help you remember their different ideas. A doodle is attached to use as an example.

Parent Instructions
Students log in to Clever, select Studies Weekly, 5th grade, Week 6, Let's Write. Students will review information about immigrants and write a letter home to their family describing their new life including facts and details from the articles, videos, and bonus sources.
 
Student Instructions
Your task will be to complete the "Let's Write" activity which is the bottom link on the list of articles for Week 6. Click on that link to read the assignment. Watch the video and review the Bonus Sources before you start writing your letter. Create a graphic organizer to plan your writing so that your letter includes factual information from the Studies Weekly resources. Type your letter and send it to your teacher.
