Comments
The graphic organizer helps the children with problem-solution text structure. The students should be able to identify the conflicts President Roosevelt faced during his presidency and his solutions to those problems.

Students should click on the linked skill. Choose the 5th grade fraction skills under Section L - Add and Subtract Fractions and attempt to achieve a Smart score of 85 or above. If your student is struggling, you might consider dropping down one grade level (Section Q in 4th grade) to help the student feel more confident and build a stronger skill base before moving back up to 5th grade. If your student is achieving a 90 or above with ease, then allow them to move into the 6th grade skills (Section J) as a challenge.

Click on the skill linked above and focus on 5th grade skills under Section L - Add and Subtract Fractions. Focus on the following sections: 5-L.4, 5-L.11, 5-L.13, 5-L.20, and 5-L.21. Try to reach a smart score of 85 or higher on each skill. If you are easily reaching 85 or higher, move on.

There is also a wide variety of BrainPop activities as well to help review.

Clever Account- Discovery Education: Edison and the Age of Electricity

Students will review how Thomas Edison's contribution to electricity influenced the world and The Gilded Age. Students will access the Discovery Education app by going through Clever. Before they watch the video, have students brainstorm 2-3 ways they use electricity each day. Students should write down their answers. After watching the video, complete the attached worksheet.

Parents, Thank you for all you are doing! This week students will begin by reading Social Studies Weekly, Week 12. They will need to go to Clever and then select the icon for Social Studies Weekly. Next, select the magazine cover for 5th grade. Students should then go to week 12 and read the information, or they may choose the read aloud option. After reading all the articles, they may complete the attached PDF "Check for Understanding". You may print it or they may answer the questions on notebook paper. Please have them cite the article were the information was found. There are two additional PDFs attached The Map assignment attached will help your child with map skills. The Clingman's Dome Advertisement will allow them to be creative with their words and drawings as they create an advertisement for Clingman's Dome. Attached, you will also find a video from a history teacher, Mr. Betts, that allows students to sing and dance to "New Deal". It is to the beat of "Uptown Funk".
 
Student Instructions
You will need to go to your Clever account and select Social Studies Weekly. Next, select the icon for 5th grade and read Week 12. If you would like, you may use the read aloud feature. Don't forget to check out all the extra videos and items that are avaiable from this week's paper. After reading, please complete the Check for Understanding that is attached. You may complete all your written work on notebook paper or printer paper. Make sure you write where you found the answers to each question. Part 2: You will also see a map of TN is an additional activity. Use the map to answer the questions about the TVA in TN. Part 3: The third activity is where you get to show your creative side. You will create an advertisement for Clingman's Dome in East Tennessee. Share this with your teachers and classmates on Seesaw if you would like. Finally, there is a fun video called "New Deal" for you to watch (see the link). It is by a history teacher named Mr. Betts, and it is to the tune of "Uptown Funk". Make sure to sing along with it. It is a great way to remember all the programs that made up the New Deal.
