Your child is going to be counting common items found in your home and converting fractions to decimal and percent. Calculators are allowed for this activity. Please encourage your child to use their best judgement when they are not sure whether to count items. Ex: Is my stuffed panda a pillow? If you think it is, it is.

Student Instructions
Open the Percent Scavenger Hunt document. You will count items found in your home and complete the scavenger hunt. For example: you count 40 pieces of silverware in your drawer and 12 of them are spoons. The fraction is 12/40; 12 ÷ 40 = 0.3; move the decimal to places to the right 0.3 = 30%. If you are not sure whether to count something use your best judgement. When you have filled in your scavenger hunt on your computer take a screen shot and submit it to your math teacher. Stay safe and treat your parents kindly.

Percent Is/Of

File Submission (if applicable)

Parent Instructions
This assignment is straight-forward and covers solving percent is/of problems. The second page in the PDF document shows the problems worked out and has the answers. Remember, even math teachers do not always teach topics the same way so it is possible that the steps used are not the ones your child is familiar with. It's okay. The flashcards will open up as a PowerPoint Presentation. Your child should view this as a "Slide Show". Once your child has solved the problem they may click next to see if they solved the problem correctly. These are skills that every sixth grade in BCS has covered this year. Good luck and reach out to your child's teacher with any questions you have.

Student Instructions
Complete the Is/Of percent problems PDF. A key is included for you on the second page for you to check your work. You will then need to complete the Is/Of percent problems included on the flashcards (PPT). Make sure you view the PPT in the "Slide Show" mode. You will be able to click the right arrow button to check your work. E-mail your teacher when you have finished the assignments.

Learning Opportunity Objective
6.RP.A.3 I can solve percent problems involving is/of with >79% accuracy so I can be prepared to solve complex problems and be a better consumer.
