Parent Instructions
Have the student read the attached fiction passage, “Day at the Beach”, and help them answer the text- dependent questions if needed. -Please remind the student of the importance of going back into the passage to "prove" their answers. They are welcome to highlight/underline/mark their proof in the passage however they would like. *We have attached the key for this assignment, please go over the answers and discuss any missed questions with your student.

Download the folktale, "The Fox, the Hen, and the Drum." You may also look at it on the commonlit.org link above but you will need to create a free account. 2) Have your child read the folktale. Encourage them to take notes on the side, and fill out the plot diagram attached as they read. 3) Have your child answer the story questions. Encourage them to go into the text to help find answers. 4) An answer key and a parent guide is also attached to help guide discussion. 5) Your child can listen to a recording of this text on the Common Lit website if needed.

We spent time this year talking about folktales from around the world. You will: 1) download and print or read from the screen a copy of "The Fox, the Hen, and the Drum." Annotate important notes such as characters, settings, problems, morals, etc. 2) Fill out the plot diagram attached to help with better understanding of the folktale 3) Answer the discussion questions afer you read. 4) There is an answer key to check your work with AFTER you have already answered the questions. 5)Extension- Write your own folktale using animals for characters. Remember-your reader should learn a lesson from your story.

The students will watch a few math songs to review multi-digit multiplication and long division, and they will then complete the attached pdf. 1. You can either click on the attached links or visit youtube.com to access the math songs. *If searching youtube, then the following are the names of the songs you'll want to search for: - Long Multiplication Song by NumberRock and for – Long Division Song by NumberRock. There is also a step-by-step video to help with division on Study Jams. 2. Download the Math Blast Review pdf and have the students follow directions to complete. 3. Check your students work using the attached key.

After watching the video (It is about 13 minutes long), students will create an invention that they believe would help people during that time. Students can write, draw, or build based on what materials are available, or whatever is best for your family.

Pay close attention to what life was like during this time. 5. After watching the video, create an invention that you think would have made life better for the people in the town of Bodie. You can write about your invention, draw your invention, and even create an advertisement for your invention. Be creative and have fun!
