Once they have figured out what type of figurative language it is-they will then need to write a sentence to explain the meaning. Your child may choose to save the file to his/her computer and annotate the pdf by circling/writing the correct answer. Another option is to record answer choices on a separate word or pages document. Your child's teacher will make students aware of how to turn your work in.

Have your child read the text, "Opinion: Teens are more anxious than ever: Is social media to blame?" -After reading the text, have them answer the accompanying questions. -Students will then consider the content of the text and the anxieties that come with social media, as well as things they can do to relieve the stress (answer 2 questions). Feel free to discuss these questions with your child so that they have a better understanding of how to prevent and relieve stress caused by social media. -Students can refer to their teacher's weekly newsletter to determine how to submit their responses.

Students should finish reading/listening to The Giver by Lois Lowry (Chapters 21-23) which will bring them to the end of the book. Attached is a PDF document with two activity options for students to choose from. Option 1 is "The Giver's Speech" and option 2 is "The Giver Soundtrack." Both activities will have a finished product depending on their choice (either a written speech or a slide presentation). Students can submit these products to their ELA teacher by way of the directions provided in the teacher's weekly email.

Read/Listen to chapters 21 through the end of the book (chapter 23) of The Giver by Lois Lowry. Download the PDF attached to this assignment and choose one of the options to complete. For option 1, you will write a speech. For option 2, you will create a Keynote or Powerpoint for a soundtrack.
